Shaina Gross has been a Community Impact Manager with United Way of San Diego County since 2006. Ms. Gross oversees implementation of United Way’s Promoting Financial Stability and Independence and Child Abuse and Neglect focus areas. Her responsibilities include assessing community needs, designing strategies to address key community issues, implementing these strategies through a competitive grant funding process, and working with funded agencies and community partners to improve direct service provision. She frequently works with City and County officials, corporate level volunteers, and other community funding entities.

In addition to her work in Community Impact, Ms. Gross serves as United Way’s public policy representative and performs education and lobbying duties on behalf of the organization. She is also responsible for the Women’s Leadership Council, a group of female community and business leaders who give to the United Way at the Leadership Level and are engaged in active philanthropy.

Ms. Gross is a member of various community task forces and working groups in San Diego County, including San Diego Grantmakers, the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce Legislative Committee, the San Diego Association of Nonprofits (SANDAN), the San Diego County Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Coalition, the San Diego Workforce Funding Collaborative, and the San Diego HIV/AIDS Funding Collaborative.

Prior to coming to the United Way of San Diego County, Ms. Gross worked in North Carolina with the Latino community focusing on issues of women’s health and bi-cultural health services. Her positions included Health Education Specialist at Duke University; Program Manager at the North Carolina Primary Health Care Association; and Dual Program Manager at Planned Parenthood of Central North Carolina.

In addition to her professional involvements, Ms. Gross is the 1st Vice President of the Ocean Beach Town Council Board of Directors, and an active volunteer with Planned Parenthood, Surfrider, I Love a Clean San Diego, and the Foundation for Change.

Ms. Gross was raised in New York, and attended both undergraduate and graduate school at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a Master’s degree in Public Health.
